Meet Our Keynote Speakers

Raphaëlle N. Roy

Prof. Raphaëlle N. Roy (PhD, Habil.) is Professor of neuroergonomics and physiological computing at ISAE-SUPAERO, University of Toulouse, France. She leads an interdisciplinary research at the cross-roads of cognitive science, neuroscience, machine learning and human-machine interaction (HMI). Her main research focus is to investigate how to better characterize operators’ mental state to enhance HMI and improve safety and performance. To this end, she develops methods to extract and classify relevant features from physiological data. Co-founder and vice-president of the French BCI association CORTICO, associate editor of the journal Frontiers in Neuroergonomics, recently scientific chair for the Neuroergonomics Conference, she has authored more than 80 publications and has also recently published a public database for the passive BCI community and organized the first passive BCI competition.

Carlos Cifuentes

Prof. Carlos Cifuentes is an Associate Professor of Human-Robot Interaction at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL), University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), UK. He is also the Deputy Director of the VIVO Hub, a £13.4M UK-funded research hub (2024-2030). Previously, Carlos served as an Assistant Professor at Universidad del Rosario and the Colombian School of Engineering Julio Garavito (2016–2022), where he led the Centre for Biomechatronics. He completed his postdoctoral research and PhD at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (Brazil) 2015. With over 15 years of experience, Carlos has spearheaded numerous projects focused on designing, developing, testing, and deploying robotic systems for rehabilitation, assistance, and empowerment. His collaborative work with healthcare professionals has explored the short- and long-term impacts of robotic technologies on various health conditions.

Alessandro Di Nuovo

Prof. Alessandro Di Nuovo is Professor of Machine Intelligence in the Department of Computing at Sheffield Hallam University and Director of the Centre of Excellence for AI and Robotics (CEAIR), a strategic hub for responsible, human‑centred AI and robotics research. He leads internationally funded projects supported by the European Union, UKRI, and industry partners. His research focuses on cognitive and computational intelligence, human‑robot interaction, and socially assistive robotics, with strong applications in health, wellbeing, and independent living.
